This morning I started a new diet called Flat Belly Diet! by Liz Vaccariello from the editors of Prevention. It is not normally the kind of book I would buy or the diet I would try, but one of my BFFs bought the book and asked me to do the 4-day Anti-Bloat Jumpstart with her. I borrowed her book for a few days to look it over and got really excited about it. So of course I had go get my own copy, which was only $14.08 at Sam's Club!
My friend made it so easy for me because she went to the store and bought everything we needed for the 4 days. There is a four-day shopping list in the book so she just ripped it out and went shopping! Then last night at her house we prepared everything for the whole four days. We even went as far to roast the potatoes and grill all the turkey, chicken, and fish. I could not and would not have done this without her. This will make it so easy for us to just heat and eat our food.
Every day you drink 2 liters of Sassy Water that you make with cucumbers, fresh ginger root, lemon, and mint leaves. It tastes really good and is refreshing!!
The first four days is a little more restrictive, and you are not supposed to even have coffee!! This is the only thing I will cheat on a little. I already had one cup of coffee today, but that will be it and no soda! Maybe I will be able to kick my soda habit for good! I also have prescription Phentermine from last August and I took one of them this morning. I have 9 left so will probably take one each morning until they are gone to give me a little edge. This will help with my hunger and with the lack of caffeine! In fact, I will be lucky if I sleep tonight! LOL
I just want to list a few items on the shopping list so you can get an idea of what you can eat. Grape tomatoes, baby carrots, skim milk, string cheese, frozen fruit, unsweetened corn flakes, brown rice, applesauce, sunflower seeds, raisins. It is all yummy food!
These are the things you avoid for the four days: Salt, Excess Carbs, Gassy Foods, Chewing Gum, Sugar Alcohols, Fried and Spicy Foods, Carbonated Drinks, Alcohol, Coffee, Tea, Hot Cocoa, and Acidic Fruit Juices, and Bulky Raw Foods (i.e. a half-cup serving of cooked carrots delivers the same nutrition as 1 cup raw, but it takes up less room in the GI tract).
It may be a little hard for us to give up these foods, but we can do anything for four-days! You get around 1,200 calories a day on the four-day plan and then it goes up to 1,600 for the 28 day plan.
There is a mind-trick you read with each meal that helps with the emotional side of eating. This mornings mind trick was to eat by a sunny window to boost your mood and set your body's master clock for maximum all-day energy.
I weighed and measured myself this morning so I will know exactly the results I get. I will blog about this diet each day of the four-day jumpstart and let you know about the results, and more about the 28-day program that follows the four days.
Click here to find out more about the diet. Please follow my blog so you can keep up with the results. I would love to hear your comments!
Welcome to my new and improved blog!
Just to give you an idea of where I am coming from...when shopping, my favorite words to look for are "fully cooked", "dishwasher safe", and "3% Spandex".

Interesting! My problem with all the diets is the cooking. If I had a private chef, ok then! Sigh.
Hey Sandy!! Good luck with your new challenge!!! Please let me know if you need any help! I wish you the BEST of luck. A word of advice:
Take each day as a brand new day. Don't think about day 2 or day 3 on day one. Focus on sticking to the diet the way it is supposed to be for the first day. It weill be MUSH easier to master. Then when day one is over you KNOW you can do it because you just did it without having a "cheat!"
Stay focused! It's great that you are doing it with a friend. Support plays a HUGE roll in your success. I SUPPORT YOU!!!
Let me know if you have questions along the way!
Good Luck!

I know I'm happy that it's becoming fresh veggie time again... finally, the price is coming down and the quality is coming up at the supermarket.
Salads, stir-fries and fresh veggie smoothies make me smile. :)
